Alumni Spotlight: Diamyn Rembert – Instructional Designer at Tier 1 Performance Solutions

Diamyn Rembert is an Instructional Designer at Tier 1 Performance Solutions, and a 2016 IU alum who studied Journalism. Diamyn recently took some time to share her career experiences and insights with The Walter Center.

Q: What do you wish someone would have told you as you prepared to enter the workforce?

D: I wish someone would have reminded me that I need to be more patient. Remember, it is your hard work over time that brings your vision to life, not rushing through the journey.

Q: Do you have any advice for students currently looking for internships or jobs?

D: Start looking early for jobs and internships and be sure to keep your resume and LinkedIn updated so companies can find you.

Q: What were your original career goals and major when you first arrived at IU? How did your career goals change over time?

D: I studied journalism and human resources at first. As I took more journalism classes, I realized I wanted to be in the corporate spectrum of writing and consulting.

Q: What has been your career path?

D: I am currently an instructional designer and I am seeking my master’s in educational leadership. I want to develop my skills even further so as I learn more I can transition from instructional design to experience design.

Q: Do you have any advice for students exploring different career paths?

D: Go after it. Do not be afraid to try something different, speak up, and try your best to produce A+ work every time.

Q: Is there anything you wish you would have done differently in your first job after graduation?

D: I have no regrets about where I am now. However, if I were to learn something more before my first job, I would perfect my power point, excel and word skills.

Q: What surprised you most about the transition from college to full-time work?

D: Adulting is hard at first. It’s nothing like college at all, however college provides a great frame work of how to structure your life.

Q: Looking back on your time at IU, what memories come to mind?

D: I miss Nick’s fries and catfish so much. I loved to study in the IMU. The best of my B-town memories happened on Kirkwood.

Q: Did you have a favorite professor or class during your time at IU?

D: My all time favorite IU professors are Dr. Calloway-Thomas, Professor Radhika Parameswaran and Professor Terri Francis. They are incredible.
