5 tips to help you use The Fairs App

The Walter Center uses The Fairs App to give you the most up-to-date information the week of the fair.

WHAT IS THE FAIRS APP?
The app contains the most up-to-date information on which organizations are attending, what they do, and who they are looking for. To begin using the Fairs App, download it onto your iOS or Android device, or access it on the internet by going to fair.social/indianauniversity.

GUIDE TO USING THE FAIRS APP

#1 – TURN ON NOTIFICATIONS

Turing on notifications for Indiana University will allow you to receive exclusive, live updates, and pro-tips as fairs approach. In order to receive these updates, enable notifications for the Fairs App in your notifications settings, then click enable push notifications at the bottom of the Indiana University fairs page within the app.

#2 – DO YOUR RESEARCH
As career coach Maria Cambone tells us in All Careers Considered, doing your research on employers you want to work for is undoubtedly important. The app tells you what employers are attending and what positions they are looking to fill. You can then do a google search on the employers and the positions to get more information. This lets you put your best self out there on the day of the career fair.

#3 – USE FILTERS
The Fairs App conveniently groups employers by career communities — so it’s extremely important you know what those are! You can also sort by available positions and whether it’s a full-time job or an internship. Open the side panel by clicking on the menu () , then choose ‘filters’ to search organizations.

#4 – SELECT YOUR FAVORITE EMPLOYERS
When you find an organization you want to talk to at the fair, select the yellow star ⭐ next to their name to mark them as a favorite. This will add them to your list of ‘Favs’ in the side panel, and makes it MUCH easier to find them at the fair.

#5 – MAP YOUR ROUTE
After choosing your favorite employers, open the map of the fair by selecting ‘Map’ in the side panel. Now your organizations will show up as starts on the map and you’ll have an easier time navigating the fair.

Of course, the Walter Center for Career Achievement has strategically placed staff all around the career fair, but if you follow these tips you’ll no trouble navigating the Winter Career + Internship Fair.
