The Paul Merage School of Business develops and equips leaders with critical business and leadership skills needed to succeed through programs that are continually adapted to address the ever-changing social, technological and economic opportunities and challenges in our digitally driven world. We offer four dynamic MBA programs, a Master of Professional Accountancy, Master of Finance, MS in Biotechnology Management, MS in Business Analytics, MS in Engineering Management, PhD, and undergraduate business degrees that focus on creative and critical thinking skills, strategic decision-making, leadership, innovation, and collaboration through in-class and on-site experiences with real-world business problems. While the Merage School is relatively young, it has quickly grown to consistently rank among the top 5% of all AACSB-accredited programs through exceptional student recruitment, world-class faculty, a strong alumni network and close relationships with both individual business executives and global corporations. We combine the academic strengths and best traditions of the University of California with the cutting-edge, entrepreneurial spirit of Orange County in the heart of Southern California’s Tech Coast.
What do your graduate programs offer and what sets you apart from similar programs?
We represent the Specialty Masters Programs at the UCI Paul Merage School of Business and we have four programs to cover – Differentiators. All four programs embody these differentiators:
Career Services: Career Services built into program: Focus on professional development; expert advice from knowledgeable former recruiters
GMAT/GRE Waiver: The GMAT or GRE are not required but strongly recommended for applicants with GPA under a 3.3. While these tests are not required, the admissions team is looking for evidence of strong verbal and quantitative skills.* (*Masters of Innovation and Entrepreneurship does not require GMAT/GRE)
Location: Located at the heart of Irvine, the UC Irvine campus is just miles away from the industry nucleus of Orange County and is bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean, on the north by Los Angeles County and on the south by San Diego County. Its warm Mediterranean climate and 42 miles of year-round beaches make it an ideal place to live and work. Of course, the OC is also home to such popular tourist attractions as Disneyland and Surf City, USA, also known as Huntington Beach. Rated one of the safest, best places to live in the United States, the city of Irvine offers an amazing quality of life.
Do you offer any scholarships, fellowships, or funding programs students should know about?
Over 85% of students receive some type of merit-based scholarships. The Admissions Committee awards merit-based scholarships based on a holistic evaluation, taking into consideration your overall application including academic achievement, work experience and extracurricular activities. All completed applications are automatically considered for scholarship, no additional application is needed. If you are selected as a scholarship recipient you will be notified upon admission.
US citizens and permanent residents may apply for federal need-based financial aid in the form of student loans to cover all educational expenses including tuition, fees, room, board, books, travel and miscellaneous expenses up to the cost of attendance. In order to be considered for federal financial aid as a graduate student, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and request that your information be sent to the University of California, Irvine, school code 001314. Once you have received your Financial Aid Award Notification, you need to go to the UCI financial aid website and choose “Log on to My Aid” to complete the process.
There are a number of lenders who provide private loans. UCI has developed a system-wide private loan lender list that is based solely on factors related to the borrower’s best interest. To begin your search, enter “University of California, Irvine” in the School field and select “Graduate Business” from the drop down menu.
What advice do you have for students who are interested?
Holistic review of application: Applications are reviewed by our admissions committee holistically, which means we look at the overall competitiveness of your application, not just one component. There are many factors that go into our decisions, including undergraduate performance, recommendations, the GMAT/GRE (if applicable), TOEFL (if applicable), work experience, essays, and fit with the program. All of these components are carefully reviewed once your application is submitted and complete with all supporting materials. The Admissions Committee will balance the diversity of education, work experience, background, and leadership potential to build a diverse and high caliber of students.
