As a senior majoring in Journalism and Public Relations, Nellie Mowat is deeply devoted to telling stories. That’s why she pursued a Podcast Production internship at The Mill.
The Mill is Bloomington’s center for coworking and entrepreneurship. Their members are startups, freelancers, techies, remote workers, creatives, side hustlers, and small companies.
“Over the course of many months, I have grown my skills and instincts as a sound editor,” Nellie said. “After college, I’m hopeful to continue telling stories in some capacity.”
Nellie was able to learn hands-on from professional and amateur podcasters. She said the most rewarding part of this experience was being able to produce, edit, and publish twelve podcast episodes. She also managed the recording equipment.
“I’ve begun learning tricks on how to better market a podcast so that it can reach wider audiences,” she said. “These episodes are a testament to the hard work and dedication it took for me to learn about the craft.”
Through working at The Mill, Nellie was able to network and make indispensable connections with local professionals who were guests on the podcast.
She advises being open to anything because the best interns are the ones who are willing to take chances and be bold and try new things.
