Seasonal Part-Time-Recreation Leader – Banneker Community Center
School year job opportunity working with underserved youth in Bloomington. Provide on-site supervision and lead a group of youth participants through activities at the Banneker Community Center and other locations. Implement daily activities–educational, sports, cultural, fitness, health and wellness and social programs. Work closely with Banneker Program/Facility Coordinator, Activities Supervisor, Group Supervisors, community groups and volunteers to provide quality activities for youth ages 5-12. Position also includes youth programming and engagement during COVID-19 including but not limited to delivering meals to needy families. Banneker offers staff creativity in implementing enjoyable activities for youth with the opportunity to make an impact on the lives of participants.
High School and some collegiate education or equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Ability to interact effectively with children and adults. Must be mature and have good judgment. Must display integrity, and take pride in preserving the safety and wellbeing of participants at all times. Ability to empathize and understand the lives of at-risk youth and display passion and enthusiasm for inspiring participants to dream big. Must have strong planning skills and the ability to implement a variety of recreational activities. Ability to work independently, supervise participants, and take direction from the leadership staff. Must be self-motivated and disciplined to carry out protocols and policies and work as a member of a large team. Ability to safely drive City vehicles including vans and minibus.
Demonstrated ability to supervise, motivate and work well with children and peers. Prior work history or knowledge, working with adolescents.
Valid Driver’s License, CPR and First Aid or ability to obtain.
Monday-Friday (10-20 hours per week)
8:30-5:30—Dependent upon status of MCCSC schools
