The Indiana State Senate Democrat and Republican Caucuses offer legislative, legal, communications, and information technology internships, all of which provide paid, hands-on experience in the state legislature. These spring semester positions align well with obtaining academic credit and offer a variety of scholarship and networking opportunities.
Within each Communications Department, there is also a specialized policy internship. Daily responsibilities of the policy interns include conducting extensive research; tracking policy proposals; developing a legislative matrix that outlines each bill as it moves through the process; breaking down complex legislation into concise talking points; and more. Through these tasks, each intern obtains a rich understanding of both the procedure and substance of the legislative process and how policy is made, while gaining practical experience.
