The African American Arts Institute (AAAI) is committed to promoting and preserving African American culture through performance, education, creative activity, research, and outreach. Since 1974, the AAAI has provided opportunities for thousands of Indiana University students to explore their talents in performance, teaching, and arts management, while pursuing degrees across the university’s expansive curriculum.
The AAAI manages student performance ensembles that are offered for academic credit through the Department of African American and African Diaspora Studies:
- The African American Choral Ensemble performs choral works by, for, and about African Americans
- The African American Dance Company performs a broad range of dance styles representing the African Diaspora
- The IU Soul Revue presents a repertoire of R&B, soul, and other forms of Black popular music
