The mission of Seeking Refuge is to educate both students and community members about the Global Refugee and Displacement crises in order to foster and facilitate conversation and proactive behavior, to participate in and organize aid and integration efforts for refugees on both a local and international scale, and to increase overall awareness and involvement for the crises throughout Bloomington and on the Indiana University Campus. Some of our current projects include sending supplies to non-profit schools in South Sudan and Kenya, coordinating a lecture series to educate students about a range of refugee issues, and organizing community outreach activities such as benefit concerts and Room at the Table. Room at the Table connects immigrant families, Bloomington families, and IU students by facilitating opportunities to share meals together. Immigrant families get to share their experiences and make new friends in the community, while Bloomington families have the opportunity to learn about a new culture and get a glimpse into the diversity of our beautiful city! With the help of compassion and an open mind, there will always room at the table. Seeking Refuge also partners with other student organizations and local community organizations to establish effective education and outreach programs.
