Whether you’re starting your first year or your senior year, want to join a new student organization, explore majors, or begin searching for jobs after college, the Walter Center will guide you every step of the way. By completing at least two of these items this month, you’ll be well ahead of the curve.
Meet with a Career Coach 👥
At the Walter Center for Career Achievement, our career coaches can guide you through the majors and minors within the IU College of Arts and Sciences and explain how your IU education can lead to a career you love after graduation. Career coaches are here for all that and more—with personalized advice, support, and motivation when you need it!
Scheduling a one-on-one coaching appointment is a great first step for students of all levels. Career coaches offer personalized advice, support, and motivation — everything you need to keep (and stay!) on track. In a one-on-one appointment, you can dive deeper into where your degree can take you, and create a plan to make it happen. Discover how to use Handshake to make your next appointment.
Drop-in to the New Career Studio Space 👨💻
We moved the Career Studio over the summer! In its new space behind the Welcome Desk, the studio now offers room for collaborationandprivate conversations without an appointment. Of course, we kept the snacks and good vibes the same.
Professionally trained peer coaches are available online and in studio, Monday through Thursday, 12-3 p.m., to help you with whatever you may need along your career journey.
Update Your Handshake Account (Recruiters Look at Your Profile!) 🤝
Indiana University partners with Handshake to help you find jobs and internships, attend career events and fairs, and meet with your career coach. This powerful tool allows employers to search by interests, experiences, and educational pursuits to find IU students who might be a good match for their open positions.
Your profile should include a photo, previous experiences, relevant coursework, any awards or accolades, and a short paragraph about yourself. The items help employers learn more about who you are, and not just what you’ve done. BTW — Getting help with your Handshake profile is a great reason to visit the Career Studio.
Step into the Professional Portrait Booth 📸
That profile photo we just mentioned? Take a fresh one using IU’s Professional Portrait Booth. It’s located in the Walter Center and is available to use whenever Ernie Pyle Hall is open. It offers a hassle-free way to get a portrait with a nice background and lighting – something sure to look great on your Handshake and LinkedIn profiles.
The Walter Center is located on the second floor of Ernie Pyle Hall at 940 E 7th St. , right next to the Indiana Memorial Union.
🏆 You can earn prizes (like stickers and merch) by tracking things you do with the Walter Center in the Momentum app. 🏆 Come see us between classes, grab a snack, and check off one of the items above!
