We’ve just passed the half point of summer break! There’s a chance you’re deep into a routine of working your summer job or internship, job searching, or networking. While all of that is important for your personal and career growth, we want to remind you summer is also great time to actually rest! After all, rest is essential to your long-term success.
For college students and recent graduates, the pressure to constantly be doing something ‘productive’ can feel overwhelming, especially when you log on to LinkedIn and see all the things your peers are up to! But without real rest, it’s nearly impossible to sustain the focus, creativity, and motivation needed to thrive in work and school. You know what they say, “You can’t pour from an empty cup!”
Rest is not lazy — it’s strategic
Give yourself space to breathe, reflect, and recharge in between your commitments this summer. It will set you up to be more than energized and focused when classes start back up again in August. Whether that means catching up on sleep, spending time outside, unplugging from your phone for a few days, hanging out with friends without an agenda, or simply doing more of whatever brings you joy, it all counts.
When you prioritize rest, you’re more likely to bring your full, best self to the classroom, interviews, work, and even career events at the Walter Center!
See you in August, fully recharged and ready for the new academic year.
